T1978 W. Winship Cabin Trunk from 1890 with working lock and key. Cabin trunk were popular because it could stay with you during your trip, not in the baggage car on the rails nor in the baggage hold if out to sea. They’re about 13 inches tall, which means they could slide beneath your seat whilst en voyage. This one, made by Winship, measures 35 inches long, 20 inches wide, and, again, 13 inches tall. If you follow Winship’s company they eventually sold to one trunk maker, then another, and finally ended up as part of Samson Bag. You may know the company as Samsonite, which is their current moniker.
